What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are designed to improve skin texture, tone, acne, and more. They use a technique to remove the outermost layer of the skin which then allows the healing process to regenerate new tissue. Chemical peels are an excellent way to rejuvenate the face, providing a more youthful glow and smooth appearance.

What Peels Does Forever Young MedSpa offer?

Forever Young MedSpa is proud to offer The Vitalize Peel (VI Peel) and The Cosmelan Peel. Both have distinct advantages. Below, we’ve included information on both peels, but during your appointment, we’ll provide our expert recommendations on which treatment is best for your skin.

The Vitalize Peel (VI Peel)

The Vitalize Peel is a procedure that uses a unique blend of acids that are applied to the skin in a series of treatments. The Vitalize Peel can improve skin texture, tone, acne, and superficial fine lines. It is an extremely safe procedure that can benefit overall skin health.

The Vitalize Peel can be used on all skin types, though treatment is not suitable for pregnant women or individuals with aspirin allergies, active cold sores, or those using Accutane or some chemotherapy medications.

Most patients will require a monthly skin health regimen and combination of peels 4-6 times per year. Many patients will spend thousands of dollars per year applying tonics, creams, and potions to their skin that does nothing to improve the health, tone & condition of their skin. Many patients are also surprised to learn that “nothing” you can buy at any department store no matter if it cost $1,000 or more is able under FDA rules to penetrate & correct skin conditions. Only medical-grade services & products can actually improve and correct skin conditions.

The Vitalize Peel is an in-office procedure that takes about ten to fifteen minutes to complete. There is no topical anesthesia or any other anesthetic required. There is very little downtime associated with the Vitalize Peel.

Most patients begin to peel within forty-eight to seventy-two hours after the procedure and will continue to peel lightly for three to four days. Nevertheless, patients are able to return to work and other normal activities immediately after treatment. More strenuous activities and exercise may be resumed the day after treatment.

The Vitalize Peel is a very safe procedure with few associated risks. However, the procedure should not be performed on those who are pregnant, have aspirin allergies, have active cold sores, or are using Accutane or some Chemotherapy medications.

Cosmelan Peel for Rosacea and Hyperpigmentation

The Cosmelan ® Peel/depigmentation peel is a breakthrough treatment that utilizes a 2 pronged approach to eliminate dark patches caused by melanin deposits. First, it deactivates a critical enzyme in the production of melanin responsible for the formation of dark spots. Secondly, it utilizes a proprietary blend of bleaching agents and botanical ingredients to eliminate existing excess pigment deposits.

The Cosmelan ® peel is compatible with all skin types and colors and can be used year-round because of its very high safety margin. This peel has also proven to be highly effective in treating acne-ravaged skin. The Cosmelan® peel does not contain hydroquinone, TCA, or AHA.

Melanin is the pigment that gives skin its color—from pale to tan to dark black—and supplies the skin’s internal UV protection. Under normal circumstances, melanin is evenly distributed and invisible. But when the skin undergoes repeated external stresses, especially UV rays, or is exposed to internal disruptions (such as hormonal shifts like those experienced during pregnancy) it produces more melanin than it needs. The result is uneven skin tone, blotchiness, dark patches, and discolorations. Over time, this melanin accumulation becomes more visible as cell turnover slows down and skin loses its ability to shed dull layers at a youthful rate.

The Cosmelan ® depigmentation treatment is executed in 2 phases:

  1. The first phase consists of the application of Cosmelan I, a mask which you wear home and keep on from 4 to 8 hours, depending on your skin type as determined by the aesthetician. At the indicated time, the mask is washed off with water and a pH-neutral cleanser.
  2. The second treatment phase consists of the daily application of a maintenance cream called Cosmelan 2, containing botanical acids that support the depigmentation achieved.

Initially, after the procedure, you may experience different sensations, varying from warm flushing to slight itching. The exfoliation process may be less noticeable until the 2nd through 5th day following the procedure, when you may notice mild peeling, itching, or skin tightness. To maintain satisfactory results, a sunblock of 40 SPF or greater must be worn at all times following treatment.
