What is BOTOX?
BOTOX Cosmetic is a product from Allergan that has been used in the USA therapeutically for more than 17 years to treat a variety of medical conditions. It is approved in more than 75 countries and remains the most-studied botulinum toxin and one of the most widely researched medicines in the world. In 2002, the same formulation – under the label BOTOX Cosmetic – was approved by the US FDA for treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18 to 65.
BOTOX can correct a number of signs of aging on the face and neck, including lipstick lines around the lips, horizontal forehead wrinkles, vertical frown lines, crow’s feet around the eyes, vertical neck bands, chin wrinkles, and bunny lines on the nose. It can also reduce fullness in the jaw and jawline by relaxing the masseter muscles.
Along with these cosmetic uses, BOTOX is often utilized in the treatment of migraine headaches and hyperhidrosis (excess sweating in the armpits and other regions).
What causes frown lines between the brows?
The lines that appear between your brows actually result from muscle movement and the passage of time. When powerful muscles between the brows contract, they draw the brows together, causing the skin to fold or furrow. As skin becomes less elastic with age, those folds or furrows result in stubborn lines.
Because frown lines are dynamic lines caused by overactive muscles, they can usually be treated with tiny injections of the BOTOX. Static lines, on the other hand, are lines that are visible even when the muscles are at rest.
These lines are usually treated with a dermal or lip filler, such as JUVÉDERM injectable gel. Examples of static lines include wrinkles on the cheeks and around the nose and mouth, like marionette lines and the nasolabial folds. Filler injections are also a better option for the treatment of tear troughs under the eyes.
How does BOTOX work?
During treatment at our office in South Florida, very low doses of BOTOX are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles responsible for frown lines between the brows. By blocking the release of a chemical that causes these muscles to contract, BOTOX Cosmetic enables them to relax. The effects are very localized and, when administered by an experienced physician, do not affect your ability to smile, laugh, or otherwise show expression. BOTOX is the only product of its kind that has been approved for use in this area.
What are the common side effects of BOTOX?
BOTOX requires no downtime or recovery time. The most common side effects following injection include temporary eyelid droop and nausea. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection. Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton Syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.
How do I know if BOTOX is right for me?
If you are between the ages of 18 and 65 and live in South Florida with moderate to severe frown lines between your brows, you may be a candidate for BOTOX Cosmetic.
How can I be sure I’m getting real BOTOX?
Only our South Florida licensed and trained healthcare professionals to have the experience necessary to administer BOTOX Cosmetic. Allergan, Inc., the maker of BOTOX Cosmetic, is the only source for healthcare professionals to purchase the product, and each US FDA-approved vial label has the “Allergan” hologram.
What are the risks associated with BOTOX injections?
There is a risk that all Botulinum toxin products may spread from the area where they were injected into other parts of the body, causing potentially life-threatening swallowing and breathing problems.
This was predominantly seen in children treated with BOTOX off-label products for cerebral palsy which often require very large doses. These issues have not been reported among people who received Botulinum products for cosmetic uses or to treat blepharospasm.
Other risks may include bleeding and bruising at the injection site and allergic reactions such as itching, swelling or shortness of breath. Your practitioner should discuss all the potential risks of this procedure with you during your consultation.
When BOTOX is used to treat cervical dystonia, side effects include neck pain, muscle weakness, injection site pain, and musculoskeletal pain.
When used to treat blepharospasm, the most common side effects of Botulinum products were eyelid sagging, dry eye, dry mouth, diarrhea, headache, visual impairment, shortness of breath (dyspnea), and upper respiratory infections.

Ft Lauderdale Dysport. Dysport Fort Lauderdale.
What is Dysport?
Dysport is a medically derived subunit of botulinum toxin called a bobotuliunum toxin. This acts to weaken the muscles in the areas in which it is placed. The precise placement of Dysport into specific areas of the face will improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
How does Dysport work?
Dysport works by weakening the muscles of facial expression that insert onto the surface of the skin. Weakening the pull of these muscles will decrease the tension that they place on the skin, allowing the wrinkles to flatten out. Over time, cumulative benefits are observed as skin is allowed to remodel without the negative influence of the wrinkle-creating facial muscles.
What areas are commonly treated with Dysport?
Dysport is very effective in treating dynamic facial wrinkles. The areas most commonly treated by Dysport include the crow’s feet (lines around the eyes), worry lines between the eyebrows (vertical glabellar rhytids), and the lines across the forehead (horizontal rhytids).
How long does it take for Dysport to work?
The effects of Dysport are often seen as soon as the next day. In approximately 10 days maximal benefit will be achieved.
How long do the results of Dysport last?
Dysport lasts anywhere from 3-6 months.

BOTOX stopped working on me, will Dysport help?
Yes. Dysport is often used to treat patients who have stopped responding to BOTOX. It can be very effective and beneficial in these cases.
Will Dysport make me Lose all facial expressions?
Absolutely Not! Properly planned, performed, and executed Dysport treatment can improve the appearance of your wrinkles and maintain a natural appearance.
How long does the Dysport injection take?
The procedure takes between five to 15 minutes to perform. You may return to your normal activities immediately. We ask that you avoid any rubbing of your face.
Does Dysport hurt?
Patients are often apprehensive about the prospect of pain with injection. Our advanced special techniques minimize or eliminate the pain of the injection. In fact, most patients are often surprised at how little they felt.

Experienced with both BOTOX and Dysport, our staff will help you select which product will be best for you.
How long until I see the effects of the Dysport treatment?
